Tavolara and Molara are the nearest signature boat destinations; La Maddalena trips often require a road transfer of roughly an hour before boarding. Olbia itself has an urban waterfront, but its best-known sandy beach, Pittulongu, lies about eight kilometres from the centre.
Good to know
Some leave from Olbia, but many use Golfo Aranci or Porto San Paolo; La Maddalena trips may board in Palau or Cannigione. Read the meeting point before booking, because the road transfer is not always included.
Tavolara belongs to the Olbia area and sits off the coast south-east of the city. Most boat trips reach it from Olbia or Porto San Paolo, often together with Molara and swimming or snorkeling stops.
Pittulongu, the city’s best-known sandy beach, is about eight kilometres from the centre. It is not a downtown beach, so allow time for road or bus transport.
Olbia is a port and airport gateway, but it does not have Costa Smeralda’s resort centre or La Maddalena’s archipelago at its doorstep. Those are separate trips with real transfer time.
